This is the first picture of the teenage boy who was tragically killed in a horror crash on a South Yorkshire motorway last weekend.

The heartbroken family of 17-year-old Gheorghe Ciuca, from Oldham, have released the picture after he was killed in the M18 crash near Doncaster.

Gheorge was a passenger in a black BMW travelling towards Doncaster from junction one when it left the carriageway, ending up on its roof.

The teenager was thrown from the car before he was hit by a blue Citroen Picasso, travelling in the same direction.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at about 7.30pm on Saturday, May 13, and the motorway was closed for several hours.

However, Gheorghe was tragically pronounced dead at the scene while two other teenagers in the car, aged 18 and 19, suffered minor injuries.

Gheorge's heartbroken family have released a photo of their son and have asked for privacy following his death.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the BMW prior to the crash, in particular the driver of a blue articulated lorry with a yellow roof who they believe may have seen what happened.

Witnesses are urged to contact 101 quoting incident number 889 of May 13 2017.
