DEARNE MP John Healey is calling for more to be done to tackle coronary heart disease after figures revealed an above average death rate in Rotherham and Barnsley.
The MP is backing the ‘heart hotspots’ campaign which aims to encourage people to look after their heart health.
The number of deaths from coronary heart disease in Rotherham in 2010 was 98.76 people per 100,000,
Over in Barnsley, the figure was 102.9 people per 100,000.
Mr Healey said: “It is wrong that depending on where you live you are more likely to die from a heart attack.”
He has written to local health chiefs asking for reassurances they will focus on tackling heart disease.
