A dedicated group of volunteers have donated £50,000 to The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s Helipad Appeal.

It is hoped that the new helipad, based at Northern General Hospital, will help to ensure quicker access to medical care for critical condition patients.

The Sheffield League of Friends devote their time to raising funds for the Northern General and The Royal Hallamshire hospitals.

They have made numerous donations to the Trust over the last three years such as an £80,000 free green bus with a tail lift for wheelchair users.

The league also annually donate £50,000 towards the cost of the Trust’s volunteer team.

Chair of the League, Mrs Stow, said that such donations ‘relied heavily on the income generated by the cafe run on the Huntsman Foyer at the Northern General Hospital’.

The Huntsman Foyer is currently being revamped and the cafe’s future is in doubt.

Without the income from it, the League would not be able to continue contributing for the volunteer team.
