A new national campaign The earlier, the better asks people in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw to take action sooner if they’re feeling under the weather before their condition worsens.
Cold weather doesn’t have to go hand in hand with illness. Keep warm, eat well and get your flu jab to help yourself stay healthy this winter.
And if you do get sick, common winter illnesses can be treated without leaving the comfort of your own home.
For colds: drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest and eat healthily.
For norovirus, or the winter vomiting bug: drink plenty of water so you don’t get dehydrated. If necessary you can also take some paracetamol for any aches and pains.
For asthma: cold air can trigger symptoms. Stay indoors on very cold, windy days. If you do go out, wear a scarf over your nose and mouth. Be extra vigilant about taking your regular medications, and keep rescue inhalers close by and in a warm place.
