Doncaster’s newest amateur boxing club is due to open next Tuesday in Wheatley.

Doncaster Boxing Academy will officially be opened by South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright and Mayor Ros Jones at the Community Centre on Parkway South.

The club is the brainchild of local councillor John Sheppard and has received a grant from the Police Commissioner and community development fund.

The Doncaster Boxing academy also recently secured £10,000 from Sports England for further equipment.

Said Coun Sheppard: “The club is about engaging the community in our area. Through the development of boxing skills the club, which is open five days a week, aims to generate ability, health awareness, self-confidence and pride, promoting respect for others.”

The club is affiliated to England Boxing and has fully qualified Boxing coaches.
