NHS staff fury after Royal wedding day pay refusals

Doncaster hospital staff will not receive a bank holiday rate for working the Royal wedding, health bosses have confirmed.

Instead workers who are on duty on April 29 will only get a day off in lieu rather than the Bank Holiday rate they would normally receive on the eight other public holidays throughout the year.

The sum varies according to the employee’s salary band, but ranges from double time to time plus 60 per cent. Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, is among several in the region that has decided not to pay the extra rate.
