A hospital unit that will transform the care of people recovering from serious illness or injury is one step closer to opening its doors.
Construction of the first phase is now entering its final stage.
The new rehabilitation centre at Montagu Hospital in Mexborough will provide spacious and modern treatment facilities for patients recovering from a range of health conditions or injuries including stroke, amputation, traffic accidents and falls.
Construction work began in January and the first phase – which includes a well-equipped gym and activities area, treatment rooms and a kitchen and bathroom specially designed for therapeutic use by patients practicing essential daily skills like cooking and bathing – is due for completion by the end of the summer.
Chairman of NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group, Dr Nick Tupper, said: “It’s great to work on this excellent new unit progressing so well. When it opens for business it will make a big difference to helping Doncaster patients on their way to recovery.”
