A TALENTED teenager has embarked on a dream journey to make it big in America just like superstar footballer David Beckham.
Haydn Cahill, 19, was snapped up by New Jersey’s Salem Community College football team after impressing in trials with his tricky skills and pacy attacking play.
The Doncaster College student is now hoping to following in the footsteps of LA Galaxy star Beckham by making waves in the world of soccer after scoring a sports scholarship.
The skilful forward also had to raise funds to pay for equipment as well as flights from Manchester in the run-up to his dream journey which began this week.
He, family and friends all held a tombola, book sale and shook a charity box for donations at the Carcroft Asda superstore in the High Street to bring in the cash.
Haydn, of Acacia Road, Skellow, spoke to the Free Press before he left, saying: “I’m excited and nervous. I cannot wait to get out to America to make my debut for my football team as well as coach and gain experience.
“It will be hard leaving all my family and friends behind but it will be one big adventure.”
