LOVERS of the VW Campervan descended on Doncaster for a rally organised by two of the vintage vehicle’s number one fans.

Emma Ellison, 33, and her husband Andrew, 42, have fallen for the camper, loved by generations of globe trotters and festival goers.

She said: “We just got fed up with waiting around at airports. Now if the weather’s good and we’ve got a few spare days, we can just jump in a van and go.

“We’d thought about buying a van for years but it was difficult when the children were young but a few years ago, we spotted a van and just went for it.”

The couple, who own Andrew’s Golden Cod in Wheatley and on York Road in Doncaster, are now hooked on the VW scene, travelling up and down the country to attend meet-ups and festivals.

Emma said: “It’s a fantastic crowd. There’s a real mix of people, from surfer dude types on Cornwall beaches, to those who travel all across the world in them.”

The pair had about 34 vans come along to their York Road shop to enjoy fish and chips and share their enjoyment of the camper world on March 25.
