Groups can select community assets

COMMUNITY groups in the Isle of Axholme are being given the chance to nominate landmark buildings to go on a list of community assets.

Parish councils, local voluntary and community organisations can nominate local land or buildings to go on the list, which is held by North Lincolnshire Council.

If the building then goes up for sale, a community group can express an interest in bidding to buy the property.

Councillor John Briggs, Cabinet Member for Asset Management, Culture and Housing at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Communities will now have the chance to bid for privately owned assets. This is a great chance for local people to work together to retain buildings that are important to them.”

The council will have eight weeks from receiving an application to decide whether to list a property, according to a number of criteria.

Certain buildings or land are excluded - mainly land attached to residential property, or in some cases where property includes partial residential property.
