Members of community movement, Doncaster People’s Assembly, are gearing up to lobby Doncaster councillors at an upcoming council meeting.
The group intends to protest outside a full council meeting at the civic offices on February 20, when plans to make £109m of cuts are expected to be approved.
Doug Wright, Treasurer of Doncaster Peoples’ Assembly, said: “We are calling on all the people who have attended local consultation meetings and all members of the public who are opposed and disgraced by the proposed cuts to vital local services to turn up at 1.30pm at the Civic office on the 20th February and join others who are opposed to the dismantling of our communities.”
He added: “We need to let the local councillors know the strength of feeling against these savage cuts.
It’s a disgrace that this Council is making these cuts and we need the Council to divert it’s energies and take a message to Downing Street that the people of Doncaster have had enough of these Conservative led coalition government cuts.
In the face of government led austerity we need to show there is an alternative which includes investing in local jobs & public services and resisting the unnecessary destruction of our communities.”
