A FUNDRAISING appeal for a project to restore old copies of the Epworth Bells has got off to a flying start.
More than 50 families have signed up to take part in a quiz over the festive season and the money made will help to pay for old copies of the paper to be restored and preserved as historical documents.
Volunteers at Epworth Mechanics Institute Library have been awarded a £6,300 grant from North Lincolnshire Council, but they must raise a further £700 towards the project.
Volunteer Christine Pledger, 56, of Sandtoft Road, Belton, said: “We put an appeal in the paper last week and have had an excellent response.
“Each family pays £1 to enter and this will all go towards the funding pot.”
All quiz sheets must be handed back to the institute before the volunteers’ annual general meeting on February 19.
Restoration work will include the re-binding of the hundreds of copies stored at the institute.
