A KEEN former darts player is looking to put his “mis-spent youth” to good use by donating more than 200 trophies to a good cause.
Mike Spencer (63) played the sport for around 40 years during which he scored many successes, including playing for the Humberside County team for a couple of years.
Now his Jefferson Close loft, in Hook, is groaning with the weight of them and he and his wife, Elaine - who owned and ran the E and M butchers on Pasture Road, Goole, for 32 years before retiring in 2010 - have been having a clear-out and are offering the haul to a good home. Elaine said: “I don’t know how Mike had the time to win so many trophies, we were so busy with the shop. They must be the sign of a mis-spent youth!
“We gave some of the trophies away a few years ago to Old Goole Gala, to be recycled for the children’s races. On many of them the plaques can be removed and replaced, or maybe they could even be sold by a charity and they could raise some money that way.
“We just feel it would be a waste to take them to the tip.”
