AS Wimbledon serves up another hotly-anticipated tournament, Doncaster youngsters are invited to an action-packed tennis scheme.

The Tennis in the Park event will be held at Lakeside Village giving children the chance to play the sport with professional coaches as well as promote parks and facilities across the borough where tennis is offered.

Sessions started on Monday in Balby’s Westfield Park and will run for two weeks across other sites such as Grove Gardens in Intake, Bennetthorpe’s Elmfield Park and Hexthorpe Park.

The event also includes a ceremony next Thursday from 5.30pm at the shopping outlet where medals and certificates will be handed out.

All participants will also receive a goodie bag full of Lakeside Village discounts, Doncaster Rovers tickets, discounts for The Dome and tennis equipment from Lilywhites sports shop.

Cheryl Sadler, Lakeside Village centre manager, said: “We are thrilled to be involved with the Tennis in the Park event and better yet hosting the final.

“With everyone so excited about the start of Wimbledon it will be great to dust of our rackets, indulge in some strawberries and cream and enjoy a good old match. Who knows we may find the next Andy Murray in Doncaster.”
