Music lovers will get a taste of the award-winning Beverley Folk Festival when Junction, Goole, plays host to a pre-event showcase next month.

In keeping with the festival’s 30+ year tradition of offering new artists a platform, the Goole showcase features three up-and-coming acts with local girl Molly Curtis, performing alongside The Whiskey Dogs and Kimber/Paul.

Sixteen-year old Molly, who has been a member of Junction’s School of Rock group for approximately three years and cites Laura Marlin as one of her main influences, has already released her first single Bad Wednesday, a self-penned song about being a teenager, on iTunes.

Meanwhile The Whiskey Dogs promise sparkling and vivacious Americana, influenced by the legendary Carter Family, Skillet Lickers and Memphis Jug Band and their sound can be compared to contemporary bands such as The Old Crow Medicine Show and The Carolina Chocolate Drops.

And Kimber/Paul, Tom Kimber and Alisdair Paul a young folk duo from north-east England, offer an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary melodies.

This is the latest event in Beverley Folk Festival’s ‘Folk Rising’ series in association with the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS). ‘Folk Rising’ aims to provide a platform for a new generation of folk music artists in England.

The festival’s artistic director Chris Wade says: “We are proud at Beverley Folk Festival to offer the best new performers alongside the greatest established acts.

“Showcase events like this one in Goole give music lovers the opportunity to see some of those emerging talents, as well as getting a flavour of what’s on offer at the festival.”

Established acts appearing over the Beverley Folk Festival weekend, which takes place from 20-22 June at Beverley Racecourse, include Billy Bragg, Martin Carthy & Eliza Carthy and Chas & Dave.

The Beverley Folk Festival Showcase takes place on Friday 6 June, 2014 at 8pm. Tickets, priced at £8 each and £6 for concessions are available to purchase from the Box Office on 01405 763652 or via our website at www.junctiongoole.co.uk.
