Staff at a building products supplier have raised thousands of pounds for charity in memory of two popular Epworth residents who lost their fight with cancer.

Workers at Doncaster-based Tembé DIY & Building Products raised £8,500 for Cancer Research UK and the money will go towards research into new treatments for triple negative breast cancer and childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

They chose the charity after mum-of-two Anna Verrico died in November 2013 aged 36 just 13 months after being diagnosed with a form of breast cancer called triple negative.

Anna’s death happened just several months after Alexander Strong died from a neuroblastoma aged seven in January 2013.

Guy Malam, managing director of Tembé DIY & Building Products, said: “Cancer has such an impact on so many people, in particular two young families in Epworth, where many of our staff live.

“Tembé are proud to continue doing its part to help raise money for a cure.”

The team collected the money during a series of fundraisers held between September 2014 and April 2015.

Andrea Day, local fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK Lincolnshire & Doncaster, said: “It has been such a privilege to work with Tembe DIY.

“It was clear on my first meeting with the team how committed they are to making a difference to our life saving research, we are thrilled as we are going to be able to restrict this huge donation to two types of cancer research, breast cancer (which includes looking at triple negative breast cancer) and neuroblastoma, we know this is very important to Guy and the Tembe DIY team.

“This money will go towards helping us to beat cancer sooner so well done and many, many thanks.”
