Doncaster’s workforce is set to benefit from a multi-million pound scheme to improve transport links across the region.
The Department for Transport (DfT) has awarded £4.8 million to South Yorkshire Partners from its Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) to help people get access to jobs more easily.
Amongst the schemes is the Wheels 2 Work, which provides scooters on a short-term loan basis to people needing to take up work or training.
There is also JobConnector, a new hourly express bus service between Barnsley and Doncaster which will connect communities in these two towns and in the Dearne Valley.
Project leaders hope the project will also help the environment by reducing carbon emissions and boost public health by encouraging people to walk or cycle to work.
David Young, deputy interim director general of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this funding, which will help us to get people into work and training and to do so in a sustainable way that helps the environment.”
