A community is rallying behind a Doncaster woman to help her family who are struggling for survival in the typhoon-hit Philippines.

The family of Catherine Lequin Encinas Hambrey survived the ferocious Typhoon Haiyan in November but powerful winds knocked out their electrical power. The 41-year-old, of Westmoreland Lane, Denaby, is hoping to raise £350 so that her parents Joe and Lydia can buy a generator.

Fundraising group Stars in Our Eyes has vowed to organise a charity cabaret evening for the family - so long as they can secure a venue.

Group organiser Colin Rufus, 60, of Scott Avenue, Conisbrough, said: “Her family was devastated by the typhoon. We could do with a venue to host the evening for free.”

Mrs Hambrey, pictured, added: “If anyone can help I would be so grateful.”

To help contact Mr Rufus on 01709 869734.
