Children and parents in Doncaster can find out what’s going on this summer thanks to a website created by young people for young people.
DonnyAPP, which was launched in March this year, is the brain child of Doncaster’s Youth Council and lists lots of fun things for families and young people to enjoy across the borough and the region.
The magazine style website, which is looked after by Doncaster Council for the Doncaster Children’s Trust, includes articles and a handy directory of places to visit.
Doncaster mayor Ros Jones, said: “DonnyAPP is a quick and easy way for parents and young people of all ages to find out what’s happening over the summer and beyond.
She added: “The young people who devised and led on its development have learned a range of new skills and created a website that makes children and young people aware of activities to take part in so they keep active and entertained during the summer holidays. A large number of young people access the web through their mobile phone, so this ‘app’ should prove very popular.”
Special cartoon characters quickly show the suitability of events and attractions for different age groups.
Georgia Wren, 16, from Doncaster Council Youth Councillor who took part in the project said: “Being involved with the design of this project has taught me a lot about working in a team and I have gained a variety of new skills. I am really pleased with the final result of the website and I am proud to say that I was part of the project. I will definitely have plenty to do this summer thanks to DonnyAPP.”
DonnyApp can be downloaded onto android phones and tablets, and the website is available at: www.donnyapp.co.uk
