The messy play session included painting, glitter, jelly, foam and other crafty items, while there was also a special visit from Pudsey Bear, along with Peppa Pig and George Pig.

Along with very messy play, the Meerkats and More company attended with creatures such as meerkats, tarantulas, a raccoon dog, a 12 foot python, giant rabbits and tortoises for children to hold and be photographed with.

Staff from Re-Read also attended and gave away children’s books to encourage youngsters to read. Freshly baked cakes and used toys were also on sale and a facepainter provided further entertainment. A raffle and tombola with masses of prizes added to the fun of the occasion.

The event raised just over £1000 and that total has been doubled as the Halifax bank agreed to match the funds raised.

Organiser and mum-of-two Kellie Southwell, 26, of Skellow, said: “It was a fantastic event and we really didn’t expect to raise that much money. It was really nice to see all the children having such a happy time.”

Elsewhere, youngsters at Southfield Primary School in Armthorpe wore pyjamas, while kids at Bentley High Street Primary School and Toll Bar Primary School dressed up as superheroes.

Youngsters, teachers and parents at Our Lady Of Sorrows Catholic Primary School in Armthorpe donned their wellies for a sponsored walk.

The national Children in Need cause raises millions of pounds every year for charitable causes at home and abroad.
