The management team at one of Doncaster’s worst performing schools has vowed to improve standards following a summer of turmoil.

Failing Mexborough School was placed into special measures by Ofsted inspectors in May with management, pupil attainment and teaching all being singled out as under-performing.

There was further cause for concern after exam results showed the number of students gaining A* to C GCSE grades in maths and English was down compared to last year. Meanwhile 88 per cent of AS students got at least one pass – down from 92 per cent last year.
