Shoppers in Doncaster have been handed an early Christmas present - free festive parking.

Mayor Ros Jones has announced free parking in the town centre every day throughout the Christmas period to support local businesses.

Doncaster Council will make its Chappell Drive and Marshgate car parks free of charge for up to three hours for the whole of December. In addition, all of the council’s town centre parking, including on-street pay and display bays, will be free from 3pm on Christmas Eve until 8am on Monday December 29. All council car parks on pay and display bays will also be free from 5pm on late night shopping days during December.

Mayor Jones said: “Our town centre and markets are a superb asset and it is important that the council supports them. The new outdoor stalls and public square are a great addition to what is already an award winning market. I hope people in Doncaster will support both our market traders and local shops in the run up to Christmas.

Coun Bill Mordue, cabinet member for highways, said: “This is a straightforward common sense way that we can support local residents and businesses during the festive period and I am delighted to be able to deliver this scheme.”
