A FORMER newspaper man and publican has been appointed as business development manager at Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.
Michael Cullen has joined the chamber after spending five years as business and magazines manager at Sheffield Newspapers.
He previously served as a key account executive at Yorkshire Post Newspapers, sales manager at Abbey Inn and business development executive at British Publishing.
He also spent three years running a traditional real ale pub in Leeds, growing the establishment into a thriving business which is still going strong.
Michael said: “My immediate priority is to get to know exactly what businesses in Barnsley and Rotherham want, and how we can help them, while getting them to take advantage of the services we currently deliver.
“I would like to restore some community spirit to the way people do business in our region and get local businesses working together.
“The chamber must act as the hub of the business community by bringing businesses in South Yorkshire together and giving them to opportunity to work in partnership to boost the local economy.”
