A NEW recycling service rolled out to 3,500 Doncaster flats is proving a success, according to environmental chiefs.
The scheme, a partnership between Doncaster Council and St Leger Homes, allows tenants to recycle paper, card, plastic bottles and cans using special bins at the bottom of their block of flats.
Residents diverted 136,000 litres of recyclables from landfill – the equivalent of 566 full wheelie bins - in just two weeks.
It is set to be rolled out to another 10,000 residents by the end of the year.
Coun Mark Thompson, cabinet member environment services, said it proves the scheme is making a big difference.
