A HAIRDRESSER is getting on her running shoes to raise money for the charity which bought Doncaster’s new cancer scanner.

Melissa Turner, 29, is running the gruelling 26 miles for the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust – the charity behind the Free Press campaign to raise £600,000 for a new state-of-the-art scanner for Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

She said: “I’m feeling a little bit nervous. This is the first time I’ve run a marathon.

“I’ve been down to watch the London Marathon before and I know it’s going to be really exciting taking part.

“I wanted to run for a local charity and I think everyone knows someone who has died from cancer.”

The 29-year-old, who works at Mr Tony’s in Bennetthorpe, said: “I’m not sure what I’ll do with myself after Sunday as it takes up so much time.

“It’s going to be like when X Factor finishes and you don’t know what to do.”

Stylist Melissa, of King Oswald Road, Epworth, had planned to grow her hair so she could tie it back on the big day but got fed up with the style and cut it last week.

She’s heading down to London on Saturday and plans to start her preparations with several other Doncaster marathon runners.
