THE average time for fire crews to arrive on scene is just over eight minutes, according to the latest figures.

Statistics revealed by the Government show that South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue responded to 1,557 calls between April 2011 and March 2012, with an average arrival time of 8.1 minutes.

This is an increase on the previous year, when the average response was eight minutes.
