STAFF and residents at a retirement home are celebrating after raising hundreds of pounds from a Christmas fair.

Tenants from The Laurels were busy making stuffed toys and mince pies to sell at their event which included crafty pair Patricia Wileman, 66, and 84-year-old Vera Powell who made items and baked festive food to sell.

Patricia said: “It was a lot of fun preparing for the Christmas fair. We were busy making mince pies and knitted dolls.”

The event, held at its Thorne Road base, also had a range of activities on offer for visitors which included a tombola and raffle, bric-a-brac, toys and craft stalls.

More than £450 was raised in total.

That cash will go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service, which also had a stall at the fair on the day.

Staff and residents previously held an autumn fair which raised over £440 for St John’s Hospice in Tickhill Road, Balby.
