CHRISTMAS is coming early to Doncaster - and you will need to get your skates on!
For the latest attraction at the Festive Food and Gift Fair this weekend at Doncaster Racecourse, is a specially created ice rink.
Doncaster College is sponsoring a star studded line-up of talented chefs who will show some of the tricks of the trade and make amazing dishes using quality local produce. The cookery extravaganza will also showcase the talent of college students and the variety of quality produce available locally including Doncaster’s award winning market.
The weekend cooking extravaganza will see Ben Varley, fresh from his appearance on the BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals, whip up some seasonal surprises from his kitchen at Churchills Restaurant in Halifax, and Swinton Park head chef Simon Crannage, of ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish fame, demo his super-flavoursome but no-salt range of stocks made from ingredients sourced on the Park estate in Masham.
Master Chef of Great Britain and Channel 5’s Street Market Chef star, Andy Gabbitas – who spent seven years as a personal chef for high profile clients such as Baroness Thatcher, John Major and Dolce & Gabbana – will be giving tips on Christmas entertaining with ideas from his kitchen at the Wortley Arms and Montagu’s in Sheffield.
And fellow Street Market Chef – and Doncaster’s own ‘galloping gourmet’ – Michael Price, who runs the city’s Gourmet Kitchen will be showing what can be done with delicious produce from Doncaster Market.
Sealing the all-star line up is Matthew Benson Smith from the award-winning Cooking School at Dean Clough in Halifax – who recently appeared on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour – Priya Raman from Ramans Homemade Relishes, whose family won the Hairy Biker’s Britain’s Best Cooking Family, and Great British Menu chef and chef consultant to Rudding Park, Harrogate, Stephanie Moon.
Stephanie, who is kicking off the show alongside Oliver Wright from the award winning Billy’s Hill Farm Shop, in Barnsley, with some sizzling ideas for using pork and bacon, said she’s really looking forward to the event.
“It will be fantastic to be able to put local producers centre stage, and Oliver and I hope to set the day off with a big bang, or should that be banger!”
Other attractions include displays by Gregory’s Leather, Etc of Bawtry, N&A Jewellery, Womacks of Bawtry, cocktail makers Spiritus and chocolatier Jonathan David.
The event would not be complete without Santa in his grotto.
The Festive Food and Gift Fair runs between Saturday 19 November, 10am-5pm, and Sunday 20 November, 10am-4pm.
