LUCKY bingo fan Irene Lee is top of the shop after scooping a cool £6,500 jackpot.

Irene, 79, walked away with the bumper pay-out from Doncaster’s Mecca club - but nearly missed out on the prize after swapping her session at the last minute.

She explained: “I normally go along and play at night but I couldn’t make it so went along in the afternoon.

“I was just in complete shock when I realised I had won and how much I had won.

“I was just overcome with it all. Everyone was coming up to me telling me how marvellous it was and how pleased they were for me.”

Irene, of Cantley, a regular for the past 21 years at the East Laith Gate club, picked up her £6,582 jackpot playing a national game, where players from other clubs compete for the same prize.

But its not the first time Irene, who is married to John, has picked up a big bingo cheque.

She picked up a £4,000 prize ten years ago from another club and picked up £100 just a few days before her big win.

Irene spent just £19 on cards to ensure her prize pay day - and is now deciding what to spend the money on.

She said: “There won’t be any big plans - we will go and get what we want and have a few nice holidays.”
