DONCASTER’S cinema is set to expanded, potentially providing a jobs boost for the borough.
A London developer has unveiled expansion plans for two additional big screens as well as two restaurants at Vue’s Lakeside multiplex.
Under the plans the restaurants would be added to the front of the building at Doncaster Leisure Park with the screens built to the rear.
Alaska Developments has put the expansion plans forward to Doncaster Council for approval.
James Weller, who represents Alaska Developments, said: “This is an exciting development to be involved with in a sector that is experiencing strong demand from both established and new operators and we look forward to working with Alaska and Vue to secure the right tenants.”
Precise details about the development’s cost and the number of jobs it could bring have not yet been announced.
A Vue spokesman said: “We are delighted that Alaska Developments is continuing to grow Doncaster Leisure Park and that Vue is included in their application for planning permission to extend the site.
“The redevelopment of the cinema would require extensive planning and at present, a final decision on this has not yet been reached.
“We will of course share details of any expansion to the site once plans are agreed and finalised by all parties, but in the meantime we will continue to ensure that Vue Doncaster offers the best cinematic experience for all.”
Vue has been the only cinema in town since the Odeon closed its doors in 2008 and was demolished the following year.
The current Vue offers seven screens with approximately 1,559 seats and over 150 free parking spaces.
