A builders merchant has launched the hunt to find Doncaster’s best darting tradesmen – and the winner could find themselves heading to London to throw under the watchful eye of five time world champion Eric Bristow.
Gibbs & Dandy on Gunhills Lane, Armthorpe, is offering people the chance to take part in a nine dart qualifying challenge for three weeks from Monday October 21 - Friday November 8, with the best 16 scorers invited back for a knock out tournament in December.
One winner will be crowned as Doncaster’s Best Darting Tradesman, and win a signed dart board and set of darts from Gibbs & Dandy ambassador Bristow as well as two tickets for a leading darts event.
And it might not end there – with the highest scorers making their way to London to compete against other branch winners across the country for the national title, an event that will be refereed by the I’m A Celebrity legend.
Gibbs & Dandy branch manager Mark Foster believes the tournament will bring lots of fun, and no shortage of competition, to the branch.
He said: “Eric Bristow is a brand ambassador for Gibbs & Dandy and we did some darts events last year that were hugely popular – it is such a growing sport.
“Many of our customers got to play against Eric and we realised that tradesman are often dark horses when it comes to the arrows.
“We thought it would be really fun to find Doncaster’s Best Darting Tradesman and provide a really good prize, and it would be fantastic if our winner could go onto the London final and take the national crown.”
Five time world darts champion and ‘Crafty Cockney’ Bristow believes Gibbs & Dandy could uncover a darting gem.
He said: “There are some great players out there. We have had plumbers winning the world title before so who knows what we may discover. The main thing though is that this tournament should provide some great fun and competition between tradesmen – some bragging rights for the pub is as good as any title!”
