Roadworks to link the Doncaster airportlink road to the main highways network are to finally go ahead this weekend.

The scheme was postponed last week due to forecast wet weather - but Doncaster Council says with the weather forecast looking a little better this weekend, the works to link FARRRS to Doncaster’s road network at Parrott’s Corner junction near Rossington will start on Friday evening November 20) and run through to Monday morning with temporary road closures and diversions needed.

The Council says its contractor Carillion has so far been able to build most of the new junction with minimal disruption for road users.

However, to complete the revised junction layout as safely and as quickly as possible, the junction including sections of Bawtry Road and Sheep Bridge Lane will need to be temporarily closed.

Signposted diversions will help guide traffic onto alternative routes and restrictions will also be in place at the junction of Littleworth Lane and Sheep Bridge Lane.

The diversion routes and temporary bus timetables are on: www.doncaster.gov.uk/FARRRS

The closures are as follows:

Sheep Bridge Lane and Littleworth Lane from 21:00hrs on Friday 20 November until 06:00hrs on Monday 23 November.

Bawtry Road between Warning Tongue Lane and Littleworth Lane from 22:00hrs on Saturday 21 November until 06:00hrs on Monday 23 November.

The unrelated roadworks on Stripe Road have been suspended while these closures are in place.

A council spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience during these works, particularly as plans needed to be postponed last weekend due to Storm Abigail.

“Weather permitting the works will be completed this weekend. Afterwards we will make every effort to keep traffic flowing through the junction until the new FARRRS link road is complete and open in early 2016.

“We do ask road users to take extra care on Monday as the revised junction layout and new traffic routes will be in operation along with temporary traffic signals. Please be aware that whilst we are hoping to install new street lighting columns this week, if high winds continue temporary street lighting will be provided.

“Road users who head from Rossington along Sheep Bridge Lane to the Hare and Tortoise pub also need to be aware that from Monday and for the next few weeks they will need to turn left onto Bawtry Road and use the Manor Farm roundabout just past Doncaster Golf Club. This will help keep traffic moving through the new junction until the permanent traffic signals are installed.

“If you have any queries during these works please contact Carillion on 01302 865860.”
