A trans-Pennine trail used by many residents in Barnsley East is getting a makeover thanks to a band of green volunteers.

Barnsley Council’s countryside rangers have been assisting Voluntary Action Barnsley (VAB) members in tackling a major overgrown area at nature spot, Lundwood.

Although there were only three members of VAB with the three council officers, they managed to transform three areas that were badly overgrown.

This work transformed the route from a dark and narrow area with minimal visibility to a light open route with clear views.

Carolyn Ellis, of VAB, said: “Even though we only had a small team of volunteers that took part in this task we were able to make a big impact on the site. It’s always good to be able to work alongside the countryside rangers as we are able to learn new skills from them and improve our knowledge.”

The work took place as part of the Love Where You Live campaign. For more call VAB on 01226 320100.
