Children at an Isle primary school were en pointe for a visitor who came to share some special moves and exercises.

The Northern Ballet Company’s dance education officer Philippa Ranger spent time with budding ballet stars at Westwoodside C of E Primary School.

Her visit focused on the theme of The Tortoise and the Hare, with foundation stage one and two pupils.

Assistant head Helen Spowage said: “Phillipa noticed some talented children and told them that with hard work and determination they could make dancers of the future. As a Foundation Stage we value creativity and plan carefully to support children’s development in all subject areas including

music, movement and dance.”

Following the workshops, 50 parents and children from Westwoodside will attend the Northern Ballet’s performance of The Tortoise and the Hare at Doncaster Cast Theatre on Saturday.

Mrs Spowage added: “It will be wonderful to see the faces of the children when they recognised the dance steps performed by the professional dancers on stage.”
