YOUNG singer Ebon’e Jackson is to put her talent to good use, to raise cash for a little girl who shares her name.
Ebon’e, eight, of Windsor Crescent, Middlecliffe, is keen to help Barnsley tot Ebonie Webb make a vital trip to America for critical treatment.
Ebonie, who has family in Goldthorpe, is undergoing chemotherapy for a brain tumour - but she needs £70,000 to take up her best chance for medical help overseas.
There is specialist treatment available in the States that is not yet an option in the UK.
Now Ebon’e and her gran, Sue Nortcliff, aim to help raise over £500 towards the trip with a fundraiser, to take place at the Westville Club, West Melton, from 8pm on October 14.
Songbird Ebon’e is the recent winner of Barnsley’s Got Talent, and will sing a selection of songs including her winning ballad, Michael Jackson’s ‘Ben’, on the night.
She will be joined by 15-year old Bethany Ready of Thurnscoe, and West Melton singer Gavin Roberts....but that’s only part of the entertainment.
Anyone willing to be sponsored and waxed or shaved is urged to make themselves known, and there will be auctions, raffles, and all kinds of fun to raise the biggest possible amount for Ebonie.
“Ebonie Webb is a little girl with a big amount of courage, and my Ebon’e is a little girl with a big voice”, said Sue.
“We simply want to make as much money as we can so we’re open to ideas, but it will be a great night”.
There will be free entry to the October 14 event, but donations will be welcome.
Sue’s granddaughter turned down a dancing trip to Cambridge last week to open the Billy Pearce Show at the Lamproom Theatre, Barnsley, by special invitation.
“It’s all taken off for her recently,” said Sue. “But as soon as she knew about the other Ebonie she wanted to help. We all do”.
