Doncaster youngsters are being given the chance to win a free rail trip for themselves and their classmates by designing a train that represents a happy journey.
Train operator East Coast is offering the competition to children aged between 5 to 11.
The competition, which closes on Friday, October 31, will have one national winner who will win a trip on the East Coast route with their whole class.
Two runners-up will receive a first class ticket for a family of four to travel anywhere on the East Coast route, which stretches from London to Edinburgh and through Doncaster.
The overall winning design will also be turned into a large scale model, to be auctioned for the charity Railway Children at their annual ball on Friday, November 28.
Karen Boswell, East Coast’s managing director, said: “This competition is an opportunity for children up and down our route to showcase their creativity. Everyone has a happy journey in their mind – whether it’s simply walking to school, visiting family or crossing the channel for an adventure.”
The competition will be judged by celebrated children’s author and illustrator Judith Kerr, who is best known for writing children’s books The Tiger Who Came to Tea, the Mog series and When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.
She said: “It was because of a journey through Europe, via Paris and Switzerland that I have my life here in Britain, so I am very much looking forward to seeing the children’s drawings inspired by journeys.”
