Doncaster’s Town Crier is taking on a challenge all in the name of charity.
The aptly named Henry Cryer is aiming to cry in five towns on Yorkshire Day, August 1.
The event – Yorkshire Cry for Firefly – will take Henry to Doncaster, Hull, Northallerton, Wakefield and York, where he will cry the ‘Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity’.
He said: “I know that many town criers have cried this declaration in their own towns on Yorkshire Day. However, I believe I will be the first to cry in York and the administrative centres of The Three Ridings as well as my own town of Doncaster.
“I feel that this is a unique event.”
The aim of the cry is to help raise funds for Firefly – a unique and free service to cancer patients in Doncaster.
Henry added: “They provide invaluable support and service with transport to and from the Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.
“Imagine having to travel to Sheffield on a daily basis for six or seven weeks to receive chemotherapy. Firefly offers a door-to-door service.”
All money raised from the event will go to support the work of Firefly, which relies on charity and volunteers.
