A special Drum Head Service will be held today to dedicate Scarborough Barracks new Royal British Legion Standards (that are paraded on Remembrance Day and other official events) and Lay Up its old standards in the Royal Logistic Corp Squadron’s Drill Hall.
The Royal British Legion Standard Bearers from Central Doncaster, Thorne, Burghwallis will be parading alongside The Sea Cadets, Air Cadets; with Royal British Legion Members from various branches attending the event.
A spokesman said: “Our Central Branch was newly-established in October 2013 and over the last year we have been fundraising for the Poppy Appeal and raising money to purchase our new Standards.
“The aim of our branch is to encourage male, females and young people to join the British Legion, to help raise awareness and re-generate the image of The Royal British Legion.
“Our Youth Standard Bearer (an Air Cadet and Legion member), was privileged to represent Doncaster at last year’s Festival of Remembrance in London.
“You don’t need to be Ex-Forces or serving Forces to become a member, just keen and eager to continue the good work carried out by Doncaster Legion Members over the years.
“Doncaster folk are extremely generous in their donations and so far South Yorkshire has raised £999,368 for the Poppy Appeal 2014 and money is still coming in.”
The event starts at 11am but the Civic Mayor and other guests will be arriving at 10.30am.
