Doncaster music legend John Parr is to perform at the London Palladium this summer.

The Sykehouse-based star, best known for his 1985 worldwide smash hit St Elmo's Fire, will play the famed venue on June 7.

He has been confirmed as the support act for acclaimed US rockers Foreigner who will top the bill.

The band are best known for hits such as Cold As Ice, I Want To Know What Love Is and Waiting For A Girl Like You.

Worksop-born singer-songwriter Parr carved out his formative musical career in the pubs and clubs of Northern England before becoming one of the globe’s biggest stars in the mid 80s.

It was on September 7, 1985 that he climbed all the way to the number one spot in the American charts with the catchy movie soundtrack song which propelled him to success and stardom across the world.

St Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion) spent a fortnight at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100, climbed to number six in the UK charts and helped boost the box office takings of the coming of age movie of the same name it featured in.

The song earned him a Grammy nomination and a successful album also followed and to date he has sold more than ten million albums around the world.

Still very much active on the music scene, John has worked with a host of the industry’s biggest names, many of whom have recorded tracks at his home studio, Somewhere In Yorkshire which is littered with his musical accolades as well as tributes to his own rock heroes.
