Police are hunting an armed robber who is believed to have made his escape from the scene of the crime by catching a bus.

The armed robbery took place at Barriecars petrol station on High Street, Dunsville, when a man armed with a metal bar threatened the station’s ‘young’ staff and demanded money.

After making off with a ‘small amount of cash’ from the till, the man walked to the nearby bus stop on the High Street.

A shocked spokesman for the Barriecars petrol station said: “A woman living in one of the houses nearby said she watched the man walk over to the bus stop, take out a change of clothes from a green and black bag and get changed.

“She said he then put the clothes he had been wearing in the bag along with the metal bar in the bag, which he then put behind the bus stop.

“Apparently he then got on the 87 bus, which I think goes to Stainforth.

“I just can’t believe it, to be honest!

“He was only able to get a small amount of cash because most of our payments are done on cards. We never keep much money on the premises.

“Given all of that, I’m not sure it was worth it.

“I am quite surprised because this is the first time this has happened in 44 years of business,”

The man involved in the robbery, which took place at around 7.50pm on April 16, is described as white, in his early 20s and slim.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “He is believed to have been wearing a dark hooded top and tracksuit bottoms, with a scarf covering his mouth.

“Officers believe he may also have been carrying a green and black bag.

“No-one was injured during the incident.”
