Age UK Doncaster is urging older motorists to check their driving licences are in date.
According to figures from the DVLA there are two million photocard driving licences that are now out of date with a further 2.6 million driving licence photos due to expire this year.
People with an expired driving licence could be facing a penalty of up to £1,000.
Vickie Ferres, chief officer at Age UK Doncaster, said: “Driving is a great way to maintain independence and freedom. With a £1,000 fine at risk we’re encouraging local older motorists to check their driving licences haven’t expired.
“This is particularly important for drivers who are 70 plus as their licences need to be renewed every three years - helpfully for motorists of this age renewals are free.”
