Young thugs attack pensioner on his way to church

A PENSIONER on his way to church was seriously injured when he was attacked by a gang of young thugs.
The 85-year-old remains in hospital after suffering a broken jaw when he was set upon for no apparent reason.
The victim from Conisbrough was assaulted on Denaby Craggs as he made his way to St Albans Church in Denaby.
The man arrived at the church bleeding and was taken to Mexborough Montagu where he remained today, police said
DET Con Ian Honeybone, investigating officer said: “This is a nasty attack which has left an elderly man with a serious injury.
“We are not sure why this man was assaulted as nothing was stolen from him.
“I would urge anybody who may have information to come forward and help us catch those responsible.”
The attack happened between 6.45pm and 7.10pm on Monday.
Officers want to hear from anybody who saw groups of young people hanging around the area prior to the assault.
