Woman dies, husband injured in crash

A WOMAN has died and her husband left with life threatening injuries following a crash near Doncaster.

The 63-year-old woman died following the three vehicle collision between Owston and Askern.

She was a front seat passenger in a blue Mercedes Vito van travelling along the A19 Doncaster Road towards Askern, which was in collision with a yellow Ford Transit van travelling in the same direction and hit a tree about 300 metres from Rose Lane, at 9.37pm on Saturday.

Her husband, who was at the wheel, suffered broken ribs, breaks to his left leg and left wrist and bruising to his lungs, and was taken to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

The two young men the the yellow van, aged 17 and 19 from Doncaster, were slightly injured and have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The yellow van was reported to have been following a dark car to overtake the Mercedes and a silver Landrover Freelander behind it.

During the manoeuvre it was reported that the yellow van collided with an oncoming blue Ford Ka and then collided with the Mercedes Vito van.

The dark car did not stop following the collision.

The 54-year-old Doncaster woman driver of the Ford Ka received slight injuries and was taken to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
