STUDENTS at Dearne Valley College showed brute strength to lift the weight of a tank to raise money for charity.
A team of 15 youngsters bravely took on the task, which saw them bench press 62,000 kilogrammes – the weight of a British Challenger 2 tank.
They completed the feat in teams of six in rotation, and were successful in reaching their target weight within the six-hour time limit.
The group managed to raise £120 for the Aurora Centre in Mexborough, which offers free beauty therapy treatment to patients with cancer.
They officially handed over the cheque to centre volunteer, Dorothy Logan, 92, who was recently awarded a Diamond Champion pin from older person’s charity the WRVS, and her colleague Maureen Sampson, 74.
Tutor Emma Barnett, who supervised the fundraiser, said: “I am so proud of my students, they have been committed to the organisation of the charity event.
“The learners finished the bench press before the six-hour limit due to their determination and hard work.”
