Warning not to walk home alone after kidnap bid
DETECTIVES are hunting for a man who tried to kidnap a girl from a Doncaster leisure venue popular with thousands of young people.
Police have warned people not to walk alone following the abduction attempt at Doncaster Leisure Park - just yards away from a police post.
The 16-year-old was walking along Airborne Road in Lakeside, when a navy blue Peugeot car pulled up alongside her.
The passenger asked if she wanted to get in, however the girl ignored him and carried on walking.
He then got out of the car, grabbed her hand and tried dragging her into the vehicle. She managed to struggle away from him and ran down the road.
The car, which had black tinted windows, drove off.
A dog walker came to the rescue of the girl who was left traumatised by the incident.
The attempt happened at the rear of Doncaster Superbowl. The leisure park, which also includes Vue cinema and is near The Dome, attracts thousands of young people each week.
Det Con Andy Gray, of the town centre safer neighbourhood team, who is investigating the incident, warned girls and young women not to walk alone in the leisure park area.
He added: "Thankfully, this sort of incident is very rare and appears to be an isolated incident. However, it would be sensible to be extra vigilant."
Bessacarr and Cantley ward councillor, Coun Eric Tatton-Kelly said: "We are naturally horrified when we hear about these types of incidents. I just urge people, especially young women, to be extra safe on a night-time, make sure they are not alone and don't carry too many belongings on them."
The would-be abductor was white, between 19 and 23-years-old, around 6ft tall and slim with untidy dark brown hair, bushy eyebrows and a pale face.
The man was wearing a black hoodie with stripes down each arm, a white round neck top underneath and blue baggy jeans.
He was clean-shaven and spoke with a local accent.
There are no descriptions of the man driving the Peugeot.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at 4.45pm on Thursday, January 28.
Officers are particularly interested in speaking to the man who was walking his dog and helped the girl.
