Trio turn violent in Doncaster chip shop

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

THREE drunks have each been told to pay £1,500 after a violent dispute in a Doncaster fish and chip shop.

Donna Burley, Daniel Bowser and Matthew Bell were all involved in a drunken fracas in the Oceana Fish Bar in Hallgate just after midnight on May 27 last year.

The incident happened when Burley, aged 31, of Evelyn Avenue, Intake, complained about the price of her order, before shouting abuse at staff.

Bell, aged 27, of Mill Street, Armthorpe, then tried to walk behind the counter to confront staff, one of whom waved a file for sharpening knives at him to stop him.

Burley then threw a salt dispenser at staff before Bowser, aged 23, of Ryecroft Avenue, Norton - who did not know the other two defendants - pushed over an urn of boiling water on the counter.

The trio then began hurling missiles at staff, including a large plastic bin. Once outside, Bell cracked the glass window of the shop by punching it, and damage was also caused to the till and counter.

All three admitted using threatening behaviour at Sheffield Crown Court.

A passing taxi driver who saw what was happening recruited a bouncer from a nearby pub who got the three out of the takeaway.

Police arrived and arrested Bowser at the scene and the other two in nearby Lazarus Court.

Adrian Rawlinson, for care worker Burley, said ‘it was a gross error of judgment’ committed while she was drunk and suffering marital problems.

Richard Haigh, for Bowser, said he could barely remember what happened and had ‘blundered’ into the incident.

Edward Moss, for Bell, said he had acted ‘totally out of character’ but accepted causing distress to the takeaway staff.

They were each given four months in custody, suspended for two years, with costs and compensation of £1,500 each and told to do 150 hours’ unpaid work. Judge Roger Keen said: “This was disgraceful, shameful behaviour.”
