Trial set for Solar staff

A TRIAL date has been set for staff charged with the ill-treatment and neglect of patients at a mental health unit.

James Hinds, 58, Susan Murphy, 43, Julie Burge, 48 and Michael Barnard, 49, have been charged following abuse against 18 vulnerable people with learning difficulties at the Solar Centre in St Catherine’s hospital, Balby.

The group appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday Court where a plea and case management hearing was scheduled for next month and a trial date for April next year.

Hinds has 14 charges of ill treating patients, Murphy 13 charges, Burge four charges and eight charges for Barnard. All are currently on unconditional bail.
