Town's oldest dealer now faces prison

DONCASTER'S oldest dealer could face prison after admitting another drug offence.

Bernard Booth, 79, of Humber Court, Skellow, pleaded guilty to possessing heroin after being caught with 1.35 grammes of the Class A drug in October.

The pensioner, who suffers from emphysema and uses a walking stick, previously avoided jail when he was handed a suspended sentence at Doncaster Crown Court in December 2008 for selling heroin to pay for everyday "luxuries."

Booth has also been charged with committing a further offence while serving the 51-week sentence, which was suspended for two years.

The former miner, was originally sentenced after being caught by police selling heroin to a woman outside Skellow Grange Working Men's Club in May 2008.

Officers then raided his sheltered accommodation where they found bags of heroin and cannabis, cash, scales, tin foil and cling film.

Booth, whose defence lawyer argued that his client had been "preyed on by others", pleaded guilty to possessing heroin, possessing heroin with intent to supply and possessing cannabis.

Booth, who required a hearing aid to hear Judge Jacqueline Davies's original sentence, will be sentenced later this month at Doncaster Crown Court.
