Police Accident

A TEENAGER was seriously injured and two others needed hospital treatment after their car span out of control.

They were travelling along Mangham Road at Parkgate late on Thursday night when their car appears to have left the road to plunge down an embankment in to a water course.

All three, including the 19-year old Swinton girl who suffered serious injury to her back and pelvis, scrambled free, and the 17-year old male driver from Swinton flagged down a passing motorist. A 19-year old woman from Kilnhurst who was a front seat passenger suffered minor injuries.

The fire service attended the scene at 11.30pm with police and paramedics, but left after making the area safe.

The road was closed from 12.40am to 6.24am from Broad Street, Parkgate to Carr Hill, Greasborough.

Police are seeking witnesses to what happened, or to the way in which the blue Peugeot was being driven prior to the incident.

A police spokeswoman said: “It is thought that the driver negotiated a left-hand bend, lost control and veered across the road to the near side, down an embankment in to the water course that was about two feet in depth.

“Anyone who can help police with their investigation should ring 101 and give incident number 1113 of 24-01-2013.” Nearby business owners who may have footage of the car on their CCTV are also asked to check and inform police if they can help.
