Taster sessions popular as students opt to Have a Go
DEARNE Valley College’s recent Have a Go taster sessions at Dearne Valley College (DVC) are proving a great success.
The Wath-based college hosted a week of hands-on, interactive, free activity taster sessions and workshops, to give local young people a chance to build skills for their future.
Almost 300 local youngsters took part, which saw participants having a go at various activities whilst meeting tutors, support staff and speaking to current full-time students.
The Have a Go event was part of ‘World Skills’ whose aim is to create a million Have A Go opportunities for young people throughout the UK.
Vocational course areas on offer included: hairdressing, beauty therapy, construction skills, sport and physical recreation, engineering and technology, catering and hospitality, public services, graphic design and iMedia, travel and business.
DVC Assistant Admissions Manager, Mark Hepworth, said: “Deciding what to do next and indeed where to continue further study can be a difficult decision.
“Our Have a Go taster sessions allowed prospective students to learn new skills but also provided an insight into what college life would be like.”
Dearne Valley College is now accepting applications for courses starting in September 2012.
